  • übergeek 400 Hallett Avenue Riverhead, NY, 11901 United States (map)

A collaboration between Fish Guy Photos and übergeek Brewing Company, “Geek Talks” is a lecture series with a night of great beer, delicious food, and a wealth of knowledge shared by local naturalists, educators, and researchers.

“In Too Deep: Life in the Deep, Dark Sea”- by Marianne McNamara from Suffolk Community College. Learn about the area of an average depth of two miles. The vast majority of ocean lies within a zone where light is either extremely limited or altogether absent. This zone, collectively known as the Deep Sea, is perpetually cold, dark and under immense pressures from the weight of the water above. The fish and shellfish found here have evolved special adaptations to survive this harsh environment, including bioluminescence, fearsome teeth, extendable jaws and stomachs, a watery composition, and even parasitic sexual reproduction! Learn about this extreme environment and the special animals that call this otherworldly environment their home.

Festivities start at 700 pm, lecture starts at 800 pm.
